The world is full of plant-based fake meats – which is really great. You can get them at restaurants and in the grocery store, but the problem is that most of them are overly processed and filled with ingredients that you don’t want. This Plant-Based Turkey Deli Meat is whole food plant-based. It has everything you need and nothing you don’t!

This is perfect for sandwiches and it slices beautifully. You can also use this with plant-based cheese and crackers. However you would use deli “meat” this works well. I even throw this on top of my plant-based pizza! It’s delicious that way! It’s similar to how I make my Seitan Pepperoni if you’ve already tried that!

This is made with tofu as one of the main ingredients so it’s packed with protein to give you everything you need for a perfect mid-day meal. The other ingredient in here that might look foreign to you is Vital Wheat Gluten. It’s available in the health aisle at any well stocked grocery store and you can get it in bulk stores as well. Worst case you can buy it online. Click on the word above for a link if that helps!

This is really simple to make. If you’ve got a food processor and an instant pot it makes it even easier, but there’s no reason that you couldn’t make the “meat” by hand and steam it in a pot on the stove. It just takes a little more time to come together, and a little more effort. But what an arm workout!

Stop buying that over-priced stuff from the store and make your own Plant-Based Turkey Deli Meat!

  1. Take all of your ingredients and toss them into a food processor and blend it until it forms into a ball. It won’t take that long. If you don’t have a food processor then you can do it by hand - it just sucks to do that. Seriously, it’ll take a bit to work it into shape - but I believe in you!

  2. Place the ball on some aluminum foil and shape it into a log. Wrap the foil around it and twist the ends. Don’t wrap it too tightly - you want to give it some room to expand. Steam it in an instant pot (or on the stove) for 1hr.

  3. After it’s finished steaming take it out of the foil, let it cool and then slice. It makes a large amount so feel free to freeze half of it. It’ll keep well! Makes enough for 8 sandwiches.

What if you don’t have a pressure cooker?

    1. Sorry for the slow reply! You can steam it in a pot on the stove using a steamer basket.

I tried this as suggested wasn’t too keen on it but I’m wondering how a smoked tofu would go if having it marinated might change things up, I’ll give this a couple more goes and see what happens it has potential in my house I know it

    1. Let me know!

    Hi Jeremy,
I was just about to have a go at making this recipe for the first time but I am a bit unsure as to what the size of tofu package is. Here in Oz we have 300g to 650g size extra firm packets. Are you talking 300g?
I might wait to get your reply
    Thanks Pauline

  4. Hi J,
I am from Germany and have the same problem as Pauline. I also need to know the gramms of how much tofu you used. I just made it with 2 packs of tofu. 1 Pack here is 200g.
The texture is on point, we love it. The seasoning is not enough for us. Will adjust next time. The kids love it.
    Thanks Sabine

    1. Our tofu packs range from 340g a package here I believe. Glad the texture worked nicely – and yes – play with the seasonings!!! So glad the kids enjoy it 🙂
