This is an idea that I found on TikTok of all places, but there was a problem – all of the versions I saw used animal products. So I wanted to show you how to make plant-based custard toast. It’s creamy and bursting with flavour. It’s a really quick breakfast (or snack) that you can make in the air-fryer – or convection oven.
This plant-based custard toast is high in protein because it’s made with a combination of silken tofu, tapioca starch, and protein powder. I use LeanFit Plant-Based Protein Powder, and it’s sweetened with monk fruit, so it your protein powder isn’t sweetened I would suggest adding some maple syrup to taste. If you’re making this for kids maybe omit the protein powder if they are sensitive to the taste of it. In addition to the protein it’s also packed with fibre, calcium, and iron! And it tastes like dessert!
You can take my recipe below and totally customize it to your own tastes. If you’re gluten-free use a bread that’s right for you. Swap out the fruit with whatever you want. Add some cinnamon or cocoa powder to the mixture. If you don’t want the chocolate chips swap them out with cocoa nibs or seeds or any other nuts. Make it your own.
I was skeptical about this at first, but I’ve become slightly obsessed with it, and my kids are now too. Now that you know how to make plant-based custard toast you can add another delicious breakfast option to your rotation along with other delightful dishes like Oatmeal or Hash!
